Our winemaking philosophy is that we are constantly trying to improve our understanding of what makes great wine, and more importantly, what makes great wine from our special little vineyard site. We try to be humble — in the extent of our knowledge and our skills — and we do our best to get out of the way and let the grapes make the best possible wine.

We love love love pinot noir, both Kevin and Beth have a passion for pinot noir and the majority of the vineyard is planted to it, this is our specialty. We currently have planted Pinot Noir clones of Pommard, 115, 114, 113, 667, 777 of varying ages and rootstocks.
Winemaker’s Reserve Pinot Noir: we barrel select the best for our Reserve Pinot — we know that the 115 clone will anchor this wine, but all barrels get a chance to ‘make the team’ and we often use 114 and 667/777 in individual or combination barrels. Recently we have also added a bit of the old vine Pommard to round out the blend.
Old Vines Pinot Noir: this wine is made from the oldest plantings on our current site – 100% self-rooted, non-irrigated Pommard clone. The plants are Pommard from tip to root and produce a unique and special wine.
Chehalem Mountain Pinot Noir: the remainder of our Pinot barrels are put into this blend, it showcases the characteristics and personality of the vintage and the vineyard, being selections from multiple different blocks and vine age.
115 West Pinot Noir: in some years, the 115 is extra-prolific and delicious, and we will bottle up to 50 cases of this separately. It is not always available, feel free to ask for a taste, to experience the uniqueness of a single-clone bottling in the best vintages.
Our Pinot Gris plantings are very aromatic, self-rooted, and produce an elegant and approachable expression of the grape. Our picking decisions are aimed at finding a balance of ripe fruit, bright acidity, and a hint of juice on the finish.
We have about 3 acres of both 108 and 76 clones planted in the vineyard, all in the 10 acres North near the winery. We ferment in barrel, with a small percentage in stainless steel. We like a lot of acidity in our Chardonnay, and believe that a balance of fruit ripeness, acidity, and oak is important.
Rose of Pinot Noir:
Rose all day! Our rose is via the Saignee method – we bring in each block of Pinot Noir and ferment separately – after an overnight cold soak we pull off about 10% of the juice and combine all lots in stainless steel and ferment it dry. The color varies with the vintage but all shades of pink are lovely to quaff. Limited availability.
The newest planted section of the vineyard is an ‘experimental’ one, located in a ‘hot spot’ where we have various clones of Syrah, Tempranillo, and Viognier. We take the 3 rows of Tempranillo ourselves, starting in 2012 and make it in limited batches, less than 100 cases. It’s rich and silky, with chocolate tannins and a spicy finish. In a cool year, look for a Rose of Tempranillo (if it doesn’t get ripe!).
